Communications

The DeKalb Community Unit School District 428 Communications Department works to ensure timely, relevant and important distribution of information with all of its stakeholders including students, parents, families, guardians, employees and community members. The department coordinates various communication efforts, including website and social media content, print and online publications, email communications, emergency messaging, news releases and other community engagement tools..

Media Relations and Inquiries

The Communications Department manages all media requests for the District and its schools. All media inquiries should be sent to Rita Elliott at [email protected].

Social Media

The DeKalb CUSD 428 social media pages inform parents, staff, and community members about our achievements, events and activities. This is not an open or public forum. We expect comments posted on the page will be respectful, factual and constructive.

Comments not consistent with the purposes of these pages or comments not related to a post are subject to be removed. Examples include unauthorized commercial solicitations; posts that bully, intimidate, or harass; content that is hateful, threatening, pornographic, or contains violence; any post that is unlawful, misleading, vulgar, malicious, or discriminatory; any posts that contain personally identifiable student information, medical information, or other confidential information; posts that interfere with the District including threatening posts or posts that endanger the health or safety of any students or employees. If more than one post by the same individual must be removed, the District reserves the right to block that individual from the page.

Community members are welcomed and encouraged to communicate with administration and the Board of Education through email and or phone call to appropriate district staff, public comment at Board meetings, and other traditional venues.

ParentSquare Logo

 D428 utilizes ParentSquare to communicate efficiently with families. With ParentSquare, we can communicate via email, phone or text messages regarding important news, school emergencies, and other critical information.   

All District and school building-level communications, including teacher classroom school-to-home communications will be sent through ParentSquare.

We encourage families to download the ParentSquare app and activate an account now to take full advantage of the many features available, including notification and language settings. However, downloading the app is not required to receive alerts and posts from the District and school buildings.

**An important reminder: Make sure your contact information is up to date in Skyward so you are receiving notifications and information from the District and your school(s). This is particularly important for critical or emergency notifications. 

The ParentSquare app is available in Apple iOS or Android stores. Downloading the mobile app is the easiest way to receive emergency alerts, posts, events, sign-up requests, photos and files, and more.

Annual Report

The Communications Department is responsible for producing the District's Annual Report. The report highlights the activities, achievements, and progress made toward the strategic priorities of the District.

The 2023-2024 Annual Report covers the time period of July 1, 2023 - June 30, 2024. This year's publication is recognized with a 2025 Publications and Digital Media Excellence Award from the the National School Public Relations Association.
